Subject: 2003 Summer Nonproliferation Institute for University Faculty

Dear University Faculty in Peace Studies,
A 7-day faculty development Summer Nonproliferation Institute will
be held at the University of North Carolina at Asheville in the lovely
mountains of western North Carolina from June 27 - July 3, 2003.  The
purpose of this institute is to enable undergraduate college and university
faculty members from any discipline to teach a course devoted to, or with
substantial emphasis on nonproliferation,  lessening the current
international threat to the planet from the proliferation of weapons of
mass destruction: nuclear, chemical and biological.  The technical
background gained from this seminar will be very valuable for all peace
studies faculty.
The Ploughshares Fund is generously providing support for
participants selected to attend including room and board at UNCA and up to
$250 toward travel expenses.  Applicants need to demonstrate an active
interest in teaching nonproliferation and the institutional possibility of
such a course, but background in the field of nonproliferation is not
required.

of the presenters. Support is limited. The application deadline is May 15,
2003.  Well-qualified applicants will be accepted prior to that date, so
early applicants will have a better chance of acceptance.

faculty at your college or university who might be interested in this
opportunity and to your colleagues at other institutions also.  If you have
an appropriate list serve, could you send out a notice to its audience?
