Northcom orders C4ISR, info ops work

BY Dan Caterinicchia

The Defense Department's new Northern Command recently awarded $5.8
million in contract task orders to Lockheed Martin Corp.'s information
technology business unit.

The orders support Northcom's command, control, communications,
computer, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) and
information operations (IO) requirements.

Under one $4.8 million task order, Lockheed Martin is providing about 36
people to support Northcom's C4ISR needs, which includes developing the
command's architecture. A second contract task order worth $1 million
calls for Lockheed to establish an information operations cell, which
will be derived from the IO capability that the company developed for
the U.S. Strategic Command.

Both task orders were awarded Sept. 30 and are for a one-year period.
All work is being performed in Colorado Springs, Colo., with most
personnel working in Northcom's headquarters at Peterson Air Force Base,
according to Lockheed Martin.

Lockheed Martin acquired OAO Corp. last December and the task orders
were awarded under the company's OAO contracting entity. Lockheed Martin
IT was combined from two of the corporation's existing units and OAO.

Northcom, which will include representatives from all the armed
services, is responsible for ensuring homeland defense capabilities and
supporting civilian authorities when directed by the president or
secretary of Defense.
